The temporary exhibitions

Every year, two exhibitions of international scope examine an era, a civilization, a major artist or particular themes that are of universal importance in the history of art and humanity.

Each exhibition offers completely new displays and a fresh layout, providing visitors with a novel, original experience. The exhibitions are accompanied by a varied programme of events ranging from live performances, concerts and talks to film screenings and discussions, as well as numerous activities adapted to audiences of all kinds.

Thanks to the excellence of its displays, which are educational and accessible to all, the Louvre-Lens plays a leading role in international cultural seasons.

LES LOUVRE DE PABLO PICASSO
13 October 2021 - 31 January 2022
La Galerie des expositions temporaires
They loved and influenced each other, fell out and made up again. The exhibition Les Louvre de Pablo Picasso tells the story of an encounter between two titans: on the one hand, one of the most famous artists of all time, and on the other, one of the greatest museums in the world. Picasso and the Louvre, the Louvre and Picasso – this tumultuous relationship, which has lasted for more than a century, has marked the histories of the artist and of the museum. Featuring a double itinerary, with more than 450 works and documents, mixing paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, engravings, photographs and archives, the exhibition looks at this unusual story. It offers a new perspective on Picasso, the man and the artist, as well as on the Louvre.

As part of its 10th anniversary, the museum has initiated a pioneering project in the museum world: entrusting a group of young adults in a situation of professional and social reintegration with the entire production of an exhibition. For 19 months, the young curators, accompanied by the museum's teams, imagined and designed an exhibition on the place of art in the intimate.
Fantastic Animals
27 September 2023 - 22 January 2024
La Galerie des expositions temporaires
Dragons, griffins, sphinxes, unicorns, phoenixes: present as early as Antiquity, fantastic animals inhabit the tiniest recesses of our contemporary world, from films and cartoons to everyday objects. By turns images of terror or admiration, expressions of our hidden unconscious and our anxieties, these often hybrid creatures contain within them a fundamental ambiguity. Who are they? Where do they come from? What do they mean?
#expoPaysage
