The Galerie du Temps

An architectural marvel with exquisite displays, the Galerie du Temps (Gallery of Time) is the heartbeat of the Louvre-Lens, offering guests a new, universal and enlightening visitor experience.

A concept unique in the world, this spectacular 3,000-square-metre space houses more than 200 masterpieces from the Louvre, without subdivisions or partitions.

The chronological display extends from the invention of writing in Mesopotamia in the 4th millennium BC to the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century.

This arrangement creates an extraordinary journey through the history of art and humanity by intermixing eras, techniques, cultures and civilizations.

Every year, the gallery is partially changed to ensure that visitors get to discover the huge diversity of masterpieces belonging to the world’s largest museum.
