Bruay, Horizon Dreams

After Louvroil in the fall of 2007, Bruay-la-Buissière hosted the second "Louvre-Lens Belfry" from April 26 to June 8, 2008 in the splendid wedding room at the town hall.
The "Horizon Dreams" exhibition was centered around France's only painting by William Turner, a landscape masterpiece from the Louvre's Department of Paintings. The event, which featured works from the museums of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Dunkerque, and Calais, was organized by Olivier Meslay, a Louvre curator specializing in British painting, and Barbara Forest, curator at the Fine Arts and Lace Museum in Calais.

Several cultural events were scheduled to coincide with the exhibition: art history lectures, a film screening and readings by actor Richard Bohringer. The Louvre and the "Les Etoiles" cinema in Bruay-la-Buissière joined forces to organize these events.

Almost 6,000 visitors

These various events drew almost 6,000 visitors, who were invited to add their personal photographs to an album of digitalized landscapes that was presented as an introduction to the Belfry (with the support of Orange).
